Diving in Tenerife November 2004 - Hopper (Michael Hopkins)

During November 2004 I went on Holiday again to Tenerife. It was the 3rd time I had dived Tenerife and as usual I stayed in an area called Costa Del Silencio which is about 5 min's by car from the Reina Sofia Airport and 10 min's to Los Cristianos/Las Americas. Quite a lot of the diving that goes on in Tenerife is situated within the Las Galletas area and this is only 1km from Silencio. On this page you will find some links to pages of photos from my trip.

The diving in Tenerife is in my mind some of the best to be found. It might not have the abundance of marine life that you can find in the Red Sea or the Maldives but what it does have is the most amazing rock formations and as the sea never seems to drop below 18C in winter with land temps around 22C-25C its ideal for a winter or summer diving holiday.
Tenerife is, like the other Canaries islands, a volcanic island. Mount Teide the volcano is in fact the highest point in Spain. Because of the Volcano the Island has a rugged beauty both on land and underwater. Where the molten lava met the sea the scenery can be quite striking, no more so than under the water with arches, caves and swim through's common.

Dives from Las Galletas include

Las Rosas (Wonderful Rock Formations and marine life)

Yellow Mountain (Again great Rock Formations and Morays)

The Rays (Often described by divers as "the best dive I have ever done")

Condesito (Wreck of an old cement ship)
